It's easy to start imagining your wedding from the outside.

How will the tables look?

Where should we stand?

What should we do with our hands?

Is everyone looking at the camera?

Here's my advice as someone who has spent a lot of time watching weddings through a camera:

Forget about me sometimes.

Talk to the aunt you haven't seen in five years. Hug your dad. Eat the food you spent six months choosing. Dance badly. Let your friends embarrass you during their speeches.

Your wedding doesn't have to be performed for the photographs.

The photographs should come from the wedding.

Of course I'll step in when you need me. I'll find good light. I'll help with portraits. I'll make sure we get the photographs that matter.

And then I'll get out of the way.

Because when people stop wondering how they look, something wonderful happens.

They start looking like themselves.
